CAPABILITIES

BSP provides a vertically integrated supply model

BSP produces rings, cages and auxiliary components for industrial, railway, medical, energy and aerospace applications.

The company is a direct supplier to leading global bearing manufacturers, with strong expertise in spindle bearings for high-performance applications.

In recent years, technological investments have expanded production capabilities, enabling BSP to manufacture additional product types (including complex geometries) for aerospace applications requiring advanced drilling and milling operations.

In 2025, BSP further expanded its offering by making its internal grinding and superfinishing department available to the market, equipped with state-of-the-art CNC machines. This allows the company to provide third-party grinding and lapping services in compliance with aerospace industry standards.

IN-HOUSE PRODUCTION CAPABILITIES

MACHINING

BSP production layout is based on CNC lathes multi-spindle and multi-pallet, equipped with automatic loading and unloading systems, bar feeders and robotic cells.

All machining centers integrate systems for complex milling and drilling operations, typical of rings and bearing components.

The plant organization allows efficient management of any production batch, from small series to high-volume production, across a wide range of dimensions.

Following EN 9100 certification, a dedicated aerospace area has been developed, featuring new machines and a metrology room equipped with 3D CMM.

The operational layout is completed by an internal cutting area, four departments for precision manual finishing and deburring, equipped with ultrasonic washing and binocular and endoscopic inspection systems, as well as a dedicated area for the production of special tooling developed by the internal technical department.

  • Turning, milling, drilling, hard turning, dimensional range from Ø 20 mm to Ø 950 mm
  • Heat treatments (martensitic, bainitic, including vacuum with subcooling) within the group
  • Marking on faces and diameters, vibratory finishing and sandblasting

Materials: certified bearing steels, special steels, powder steel.

Raw material warehouse: 400 tons – 6,000 sqm

GRINDING AND SUPERFINISHING

The grinding department, built within a fully climate-controlled environment, includes state-of-the-art CNC grinding and lapping machines (Studer, Tacchella, Sunnen, LamPlan), supported by:

  • edicated inspection room with CMM Zeiss
  • roundness testers and roughness/profile measuring instruments Taylor-Hobson
  • temperature-controlled furnace for dimensional stability

Le capabilities dimensionali, per le operazioni di Rettifica e lappatura, con tolleranze fino al micron, sono le seguenti:

  • EXTERNAL DIAMETER GRINDING (max Ø340 mm, up to 700 mm in length)
  • INTERNAL DIAMETER GRINDING (min Ø10 mm, up to 700 mm in length)
  • LAPPING (from Ø19 mm to Ø230 mm, depth up to 900 mm, Ra 0.1)

The production segment where the department operates most effectively includes grinding, lapping and superfinishing of aerospace components (bodies, cylinders, actuators, housings, etc.), as well as small batches of bearing rings.

Supply Chain

BSP manages raw material procurement through a consolidated network of certified suppliers, including steel mills and qualified distributors, ensuring high quality standards and full traceability.

RAW MATERIAL PROCUREMENT

The purchased materials include bars, tubes, cut rings and forged components, selected according to application requirements and customer specifications.

The rings produced by BSP are manufactured using certified bearing steels, including 100Cr6, 100CrMo7, X30, E355, 42CrMoV4, powder steel and nitriding steels.

The choice of the starting form — bar, tube, forged or rolled — allows optimization of the production process and ensures the most efficient technical and economic solution for each product.

BSP also operates an in-house raw material warehouse of approximately 500 tons, distributed over an area of 6,000 sqm, ensuring production continuity and fast response to customer needs.

SPECIAL PROCESSES

BSP relies on and manages a structured and qualified supply chain, periodically assessed to ensure the required service level and compliance with industry standards.

In the aerospace sector, all suppliers involved in the process must have NADCAP-certified processes.

Specifically, BSP relies on external suppliers and partners for the following processes:

  • Heat treatments on:
  • Steels – AMS 2759 & AMS-H-6875
  • Low alloy steels – AMS 2759/1 & AMS 2759/2
  • Stainless and PH steels – AMS 2759/3
  • Martensitic stainless steels – AMS 2759/5
  • Nitriding – AMS 2759/6

  • Non-destructive testing and laboratory analysis:
  • Chemical composition analysis of steel
  • Metallographic analysis including determination of:
  • Microstructure / Macrostructure
  • Austenitic grain size
  • Surface defects (decarburization, oxidation, intergranular attack)
  • Vickers microhardness testing
  • Brinell, Rockwell and Vickers hardness testing
  • Surface treatments and coatings
  • EDM and gear cutting

Partnerships

The close collaboration with the parent company UMBRAGROUP for heat treatments, carried out at the Foligno facility located just a few kilometers away, has enabled BSP for over 25 years to optimize inter-operational designs and treatment cycles on the main bearing steels, with all related testing performed in a certified in-house laboratory.

Co.Me.Ar. is the sister company of BSP, sharing history, ownership and organizational model.

The two companies operate in close synergy, integrating their respective expertise: BSP specializes in turning operations, including large diameters and high volumes, while Co.Me.Ar. contributes its know-how in milling and complex drilling processes, ensuring a complete and efficient production offering.

BSP is an active member of the Umbria Aerospace Cluster and collaborates synergistically with the companies within it.

The Cluster is an association that represents and promotes, at regional, national and international level, Umbrian companies operating in the aeronautics, aerospace and defense sectors, enhancing their skills and excellence with the aim of developing synergies, sharing know-how and business opportunities, supporting internationalization processes and fostering innovation.

BSP and COMEAR collaborate with EMS in the production of mechanical components for electric motors and electromagnetic brakes, which represent the core business of this highly specialized and dynamic company, based in Albanella (SA) and recently integrated into Umbragroup
